Cigar Review: Rocky Patel The Edge Habano Toro

Initial Thoughts

Before I joined a cigar of the month club like the Adventure Club, I smoked basically the same cigar all the time. That cigar was the Rocky Patel Edge Sumatra. But when that cigar was harder to find, or if I felt like changing things up, I went for today's cigar, the Rocky Patel The Edge Habano Toro.

The Rocky Patel Edge Habano Toro differs from the Sumatra in one, key way. It swaps the wrapper leaf to an Ecuadorian Habano, and this change removes most of the sweetness from this cigar. That's not to say it isn't delicious, it is, but it's different. Let's take a closer look.

The Edge Habano is a medium-brown cigar that has no decoration except for the baby blue foot band. The Ecuadorian Habano wrapper leaf is smooth and only slightly oily to the touch. In fact, the wrapper leaf is almost dry.

On the cold draw, the flavors were like freshly cut wood, like a sawmill or the lumber section at Home Depot. Once lit, the Rocky Patel Edge Habano smelled quite wonderful.

Will the Rocky Patel The Edge Habano Toro be as good as I remembered? Is it a good enough value for the money to earn a spot as a staple in your humidor?

Let's smoke it together and find out.

Final Thoughts

I was able to enjoy my Rocky Patel Edge Habano Toro for an impressively long smoke time of one hour and forty minutes. And, through that time, the flavors were very good. The spiciness might've gotten slightly more intense as I smoked, but the cigar was never too strong.

The construction was perfect. The draw was perfect. The amount of smoke I got on each puff – perfect.

This cigar is not only impressive but doubly so because of its sub-$10 price point. The Rocky Patel Edge Habano Toro earns a CigarScore 5.
