Cigar Review: Room 101 Doomsayer Aggressive

Initial Thoughts:

Before we get started today, I wanted to share some news – we're opening a cigar lounge south of Dallas, Texas! The CigarScore Lounge is in the early (read: super early) stages of development. However, we've got a small online store with a hand-selected set of cigars personally picked by me (Ellory). If you'd like to check us out, go to CigarScoreLounge.com.

Today's cigar, the Room 101 Doomsayer Aggressive Toro is one part of a two-part series. The second part is called the Doomsayer Passive.

Wow, as soon as I removed the Room 101 Doomsayer Aggressive Toro from the cellophane, I was blasted with aroma. The wrapper leaf is almost ashy in color, and there were some pretty significant stems running the length of the cigar.

On the cold draw, the flavors were very woody and leafy, like a pile of leaves in the fall. Once lit, however, the Doomsayer Aggressive offered up initial flavors of musty leather. A few puffs in and there was something incredibly smooth and velvety on my palate.

Through the middle of the cigar, the flavors remained consistent, with hints of wood and nuts that were very smooth.

However, the thick stems in the wrapper leaf could be the cause of several audible pops that sound like cracks along a fault line. And, as soon as I removed the label, the construction issues got worse.

That said, if you couldn't hear the pops or see the cracks, you'd think this was a great cigar.

Final Thoughts

Over the 68 confusing minutes I spent with the Room 101 Doomsayer Aggressive Toro, there was popping, cracking, splitting, and other construction issues. While the flavors for the first two-thirds were good, they became sour and weren't so great in the final third.

However, other than those issues, the burn was even and the draw was fantastic. And, up until the last 15-ish minutes, the flavors were good.

For the most part, this cigar was good, but the flaws were major. I do like the price point though. So, the Room 101 Doomsayer Aggressive Toro earns a CigarScore 3.
