I’ve travelled regularly to New Orleans over several decades. And I’m always seeking out good cigar shops. I have been to many. Some are great and have live bands (NOLA is packed with unknown musicians that are jar dropping good), full bar and food menu. Crescent City has none of the above. What is does have is owner Armando Ortiz, a Puerto Rican who escaped the NYC/Jersey vibe and came to the Big Easy to relax. Armando has an amazing selection of rare hard to find special sticks. Once you get to know Armando, you will see that he is a fanatical cigar collector as well. The not-for-sale sticks in his private collection are beyond words. But the main thing is the warm and engaging personality of Armando Ortiz. He is an encyclopedic vault of knowledge about cigars, farms, factories, owners, current and past. He is very enthusiastic and makes his customers feel enthusiastic, too. There’s one TV & a few chairs where regulars and newbies can sit and shoot the shit. Kinda spare in amenities, and yet it is my favorite cigar shop in the Big Easy. Last time I heard, he was gonna open a second, more fancy, location. And what is even more awesome: after visiting busy shops all over the city, I find Armando and his shop just chilling, one half a block off all the Bourbon Street madness. Thank God. David C. Serna

my favorite cigar shop in the Big Easy
