Have you ever walked into a cigar lounge's humidor and seen a cigar you'd never buy? Maybe it was a weird shape. Maybe it had a weird look. Well, both of those things are true for today's cigar, the La Flor Dominicana Special Football Edition 2023.
The La Flor Dominicana Special Football Edition 2023 is an odd-looking cigar that might just be a giant gimmick designed to get people to buy and smoke it during football season. The LFD “Football” edition for 2023 is a mostly Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, but it's accented with strips of a United States “broadleaf” of unknown origin.
To achieve the colorful rings at the smoking end, the two wrappers are used to create what could be several caps. To get anything close to a decent draw, I had to cut through all of them. On the first puff, the LFD Football offered up mild flavors of wood. Through the first few puffs, the amount of smoke was so low I could barely taste anything at all.

Final Thoughts
The La Flor Dominicana Special Football Edition 2023 is a cigar without an identity. The first third was boring and the extremely mild flavors were uninteresting.
For a cigar made to be smoked during the Super Bowl, the LFD Football for 2023 sure didn't smoke well with my Devil's Backbone Belgian Tripel beer. The best, most flavorful parts of the cigar were the United States “broadleaf” that had been cut out and stuck to the outside of the cigar. While I smoked the LFD Football for about 75 minutes, I was bored with this cigar long before I was done smoking it.
However, the construction of the La Flor Dominicana Special Football Edition 2023 was pretty good. With all of the intricacies, the artful craftsmanship was pretty good.
At the end of the day, the construction was pretty good. The flavors weren't bad. And I think this cigar is expensive for something I will deem a gimmick. But putting my flavor preferences aside, I must give the La Flor Dominicana Special Football Edition 2023 a CigarScore 4.
