Cigar Review: Oliva Serie V Melanio Maduro Torpedo

Initial Thoughts

In general, I'm a pretty big fan of Oliva's cigars. The Serie V is one of my favorite cigars, and we've even done several Melanios cigar reviews. However, the maduro versions that Oliva makes typically haven't been among my favorites. But, as a cigar reviewer, I'd be remiss if I didn't come back to a blend I'd had before to give it another shot and/or to see if my palate has evolved. So today, we're diving into the Oliva Serie V Melanio Maduro Torpedo.

Despite historically not loving the blend, the Oliva Serie V Melanio Maduro is a beautiful cigar. The dark Mexican San Andres wrapper leaf is always just gorgeous with well dehumidified veins and a mildly rough texture. On the cold draw, I tasted loads of cedar. Once lit, the flavors were immediately complex with notes of cedar, spice, wood, and earth.

Is the Oliva Serie V Melanio Maduro Torpedo worth a price premium? Does it taste like a $17 cigar? Let's smoke it and find out.

Final Thoughts

After smoking the Oliva Serie V Melanio Maduro Torpedo for right at 79 minutes, I was pleasantly surprised and glad I revisited the maduro version of the Melanio. This was a really good cigar.

Regarding the flavors, they were enjoyable but I'd have preferred something more oily and chocolatey from the Mexican San Andres wrapper than what I tasted today. Overall, the construction was good.
