Cigar Review: Drew Estate Undercrown Maduro Corona Viva

Over the last few years, I’ve become a sucker for the Undercrown 10. That cigar was blended to commemorate the 10th anniversary of one of Drew Estate’s core lines, the original Drew Estate Undercrown Maduro. And that’s what we’re diving into today, a cigar that helped bring Drew Estate into the humidors of just about every retailer in the world.

Initial Thoughts

The Drew Estate Undercrown Maduro Corona Viva is a great-looking cigar in a very appealing size. The Mexican San Andres Otapan Negro Último Corte wrapper is dark and toothy, but also rustic and bumpy.

Once lit, the Undercrown Maduro gave off a wonderful first impression. There was plenty of rich, strong smoke, and I the cigar had a great start. After a couple of minutes, I noticed this wasn’t the chocolatey and sweet Mexican San Andres leaf that I often love. Instead, the version on this Undercrown Maduro is more like espresso and roasted coffee.

The Undercrown Maduro is a staple in humidors all over. Is it worth it? Or, is the Undercrown surrounded by hype? Let’s find out.

Final Thoughts

While I don’t love every one of these I smoke, and maybe that depends on what I ate and drank prior to lighting up, but the Drew Estate Undercrown Maduro Corona Viva I reviewed was a good cigar. And, largely, these cigars are consistent and reliable.

The Drew Estate Undercrown Maduro will bring to your palate flavors of espresso and Earth, along with some good tobacco flavor.
