Cigar Review: Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust Polpetta Short Robusto

Initial Thoughts

We love it when cigar companies try new and different things. In the cigar world, Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust is always doing something different or trying something new. And today's cigar, the Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust Polpetta Short Robusto is… well, both new and not new.

The Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust Polpetta Short Robusto features both Nicaraguan long fillers and short filler table trimmings from Dunbarton’s most popular blends like the Mi Querida, Umbagog, and Mi Querida Triqui Traca. The Polpetta features a Mexican San Andres binder and a beautiful Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper.

In other words, all of the left overs from some of Dunbarton's most popular, full-bodied, cigars have been rolled together and stuffed inside the Polpetta, which loosely means “meatball”.

Does the Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust Polpetta taste like it was just thrown together? Or, is this a premium cigar made with the best tobacco Dunbarton can source?

Let's find out.

Final Thoughts

If you're looking for a long smoke, the Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust Polpetta Short Robusto definitely isn't it.

Over the course of about 45 minutes, the Polpetta did pretty well. The construction was pretty good, as were the flavors. I think someone could really love this cigar if they also loved the Mi Querida, Mi Querida Triqui Traca, and the Umbagog. For me though, I wasn't left wanting to smoke another one.

While there was nothing bad with Polpetta, I didn't find anything particularly wonderful either. The flavors were more complex in the first half than in the second. It's a good cigar, not a great cigar. Because it was good-but-not-great, the Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust Polpetta Short Robusto earns a CigarScore 4.
