Cigar Review: Gran Habano Corojo #5 Gran Robusto

Initial Thoughts:

The other day, I walked by my local lounge while strolling through downtown Cincinnati, and I decided to stop in, support the shop, and buy a cigar. Although the lounge was full, the humidor was mostly empty due to supply chain issues due to COVID-19.

Anyway, the cigar I bought was the Gran Habano Corojo #5 Gran Robusto.

Once I unsheathed the Gran Habano Corojo #5, I was greeted with a wonderful aroma. Even before lighting the cigar, it smelled great.

It looks like the cigar has a triple cap on the end, and the final cap got smudged or bunched up when the glue was applied. But, I went with a guillotine cut in hopes that I could bypass the blemish and create an enjoyable experience.

On the cold draw, I tasted lots of cedar and grass. After torching the end, the flavors were a delicious blend of both creamy and spicy tobaccos.

Through the middle of the smoke, the flavors of the Gran Habano Corojo #5 were pretty good and had nice complexity. However, there were some burn issues that I had to fix which might impact the overall CigarScore of the Corojo #5.

Final Thoughts

After smoking the Gran Habano Corojo #5 Gran Robusto for almost two hours, the flavors were good, and both creamy and spicy. There was no pepper, but the heat from the Corojo binder and wrapper came through and delivered some spice.

However, there were some construction issues. I had to re-torch an uneven burn twice, and the draw fluctuated between perfect and slightly-tight.

At the end of the day, the Corojo #5 is a good cigar at a great price. I'd smoke it again and I think you'd enjoy it too. Because the overall experience was great (but not perfect) the Gran Habano Corojo #5 Gran Robusto earns a CigarScore 4.
