Cigar Review: Hooten Young 2020 Selection

Initial Thoughts

Back in 2019, the first thing that attracted me to Hooten Young Cigars was just how beautiful they were. Fast forward four years and the Hooten Young 2020 Selection Toro is another beautiful cigar.

The HY 2020 Selection is a slightly box-pressed toro that's medium brown in color and that has a lot of nice texture to it. Before I lit up the cigar, I could smell leather and a floral note on the wrapper leaf.

After a quick cut from my Xikar XO guillotine, the draw had the perfect amount of resistance. The cold draw flavors were of a light wood. Once lit, the Hooten Young 2020 Selection delivered flavors for spicy and smokey gingerbread.

Is the 2020 Selection toro worth $14? Let's smoke it and find out!

Final Thoughts

While I didn't a full 90 minutes from the toro vitola of the Hooten Young 2020 Selection, I really enjoyed this cigar. I think my box of cigars to review was a little low on relative humidity, and that's on me.

This cigar is both spicy and sweet, but it's not as sweet or as chocolatey as some cigars with Mexican San Andres wrappers. The construction was about perfect, though the first third had a burn that was not razor-sharp. Additionally, the draw remained fantastic throughout the smoke, and I was able to get voluminous amounts of smoke.

There is so much to like about this cigar, so the Hooten Young 2020 Selection earns a CigarScore 5.
