Initial Thoughts:
Have you ever bought a cigar by mistake? Ya, well, not all of us can be perfect, can we? Today's cigar is one I bought thinking it was something else. Today we're diving headfirst into the Oliva Serie V Maduro Toro.
Here at CigarScore HQ, we love getting great deals on cigars. That's why we check Cigar Monster daily to see what cigars we can get at a steep discount. So, when I saw an Oliva Serie V Toro for sale, I bought a bunch, not realizing they were the Maduros instead of the Naturals (reviewed here).
Getting back to the review, the Oliva Serie V Maduro Toro has an incredibly toothy and textured wrapper. As soon as I removed it from the cellophane, I noticed the roughness of the leaf.
After cutting the end, I got a great draw with cold draw flavors that were a little sour, a little bit cedary. Once lit, the Serie V Maduro had a great aroma.
CigarScore:

Price: $10.40
Wrapper: Mexican San Andres

Through the middle of the cigar, the Serie V Maduro Toro showed off the build quality I've come to expect from Oliva's cigars. The draw was perfect, the burn was razor sharp, and the ash held on quite well.
Final Thoughts
After smoking the Oliva Serie V Maduro Toro for almost 90 minutes, I can say that you don't have to spend $30 on a cigar to get perfect construction. Even in the final third, a spot on a cigar when many manufacturers abandon their quest for impeccable construction, this cigar had the most razor-sharp burn I've ever seen.
However, I don't love the flavors. If I had to choose between the Serie V Maduro and the Natural, I'd probably have to choose the leathery cinnamon flavors of the Natural.
But, we're not comparing this cigar to its Natural counterpart. And, this cigar has perfect construction and great flavors. Oh, and a great price point. So, the Oliva Serie V Maduro Toro earns a well-deserved CigarScore 5.
