The Rocky Patel Sun Grown Robusto is a great-looking cigar. It's medium-brown in color, it's a great vitola, and it has a wonderful aroma. Let's dive in!
The 5-year-old Ecuadorian Sun Grown wrapper has some nice texture to it that almost looks like the teeth on the “comb” or spindle inside a music box.
The smooth sailing hit a snag when I went to cut the cigar. My v-cutter struggled to cut through the end of the cigar which had several stems coming right up through the smoking end. However, the cold draw managed to have the right amount of resistance and offered up flavor notes of wood, specifically cedar.
Regarding the flavors, they were good. Right off the bat, the Rocky Patel Sun Grown Robusto was spicy, leathery, and impressive.

If getting lost in what you're doing while smoking a cigar is a hallmark of a good cigar, the Rocky Patel Sun Grown Robusto has that down. So far.
Through the middle of the cigar, the burn was pretty good, but not perfect. However, the flavors were quite complex and the cigar delivered a spicy smoke with nice undertones of sweetness that added depth to the experience.
Final Thoughts
Parallel to my comment before, if smoking a cigar until you can't physically hold it anymore is a hallmark of a good cigar, the Rocky Patel Sun Grown Robusto had that nailed.
The Rocky Patel Sun Grown Robusto was sweet. It was also spicy. It was complex. It also had nearly perfect construction and a fantastic smoke time.
This cigar might have been a lucky fluke or it could be the cigar that brings attention back to the Rocky Patel brand. I had a great smoking experience, so the Rocky Patel Sun Grown Robusto earns a well-deserved CigarScore 5.
