Initial Thoughts:
One of the joys of doing cigar reviews is smoking blends from brands I've never heard of. And today, I'm doing just that with the “Hex” Churchill from Sindicato Cigars, which I picked up at my local lounge in Cincinnati.
After taking the Sindicato Hex Churchill out of its cellophane, the fragrant wrapper smelled like flowers. Once the end was cut and I went in to test the cold draw, the flavors were a little green and I began to wonder if this was a budget stick. However, the pre-light draw was perfect.
However, in the first third, I struggled to get much smoke from the cigar. The draw was good, so maybe there was something wrong with the construction. What I could taste were notes of leather and spice, but hard to determine at this point.
CigarScore:
Brand: Sindicato
Line: Hex
Size: 7 x 54
Cut: Guillotine
Light: Torch
Price: $8.75
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Smoke Time: 85 minutes
Going into the middle of the cigar, the flavors were okay, and the construction was pretty solid. The draw and smoke issues from the first third disappeared, but I still struggled to taste the smoke.
Final Thoughts
After spending about 90 minutes with the Sindicato Hex Churchill, I'll say that this is an okay cigar. While the construction was great, the burn was a little uneven, and the flavors were, as I mentioned, just okay. But, the price isn't bad at all.
Though I didn't love the flavors, the overall construction of the cigar was admirable. Plus, you get a 90 minute smoke for under $10. For these reasons, the Sindicato Hex Churchill earns a CigarScore 4.
