Cigar Review: Room 101 Johnny Tobacconaut Toro 2024

One thing we like to do with the Adventure Club is explore multiple vitolas of the same cigar to see how the length and ring gauge of a blend changes the flavor. While this is a review of the Room 101 Johnny Tobacconaut Toro from 2024, we've also reviewed the Johnny Tobacconaut Perfecto from 2024, as well as the original Johnny Tobacconaut perfecto from 2022.

Needless to say, this is a blend with which I am quite familiar.

Initial Thoughts

As with every Room 101 Johnny Tobacconaut I've smoked, the toro 2024 looks great. Matt Booth and company select basically flawless Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade leaves to wrap these cigars, and they're visually attractive. Giving the cigar a sniff, the JT smelled like Wheaties cereal and cardboard, but in a good way.

Once lit, the Room 101 Johnny Tobacconaut Toro from 2024 started very good, but the burn was a little uneven. The first flavors were creamy and smooth but with a spicy kick, especially on the retrohale.

Final Thoughts

While I've never had an issue with any of the Johnny Tobacconaut Perfecto I've smoked, this toro had a couple of hollow spots that really infuriated me. After a sample of one, the toro is no replacement for its more expensive perfecto brother.

However, the flavors of the Room 101 Johnny Tobacconaut Toro from 2024 were delicious. The flavors were sweet and creamy with episodes of spiciness. Where the perfecto started out a with citrus flavors, the toro seemed to have finished with them.

Despite the construction issues, I think the Johnny Tobacconaut deserves to be on our list of breakfast cigars to pair with coffee. Mainly because of the hollow spots, the Room 101 Johnny Tobacconaut Toro from 2024 earns a CigarScore 4.
